Concilium

Founders’ Memorial Issue

In April of 2021, the last of the founders of Concilium passed away. With the passing of this original generation, we thought it appropriate to pay tribute to the founders by republishing some of their seminal articles.

In this special memorial issue, read Yves Congar on the Church; Karl Rahner on Christianity and ideology; Edward Schillebeeckx on the Magisterium; Johann Baptist Metz on theodicy; and Hans Küng on a world ethic.

The original articles are accompanied by commentary from Richard Gaillardetz, J. Matthew Ashley, Stephan van Erp, Dietmar Mieth and Werner Jeanrond.

The Founders’ Memorial Issue is available to read free on the Concilium website: https://concilium.hymnsam.co.uk/issues/founders-memorial-issue/

"...Concilium maps the state of the most pressing questions with solid contributions from leading theologians and cutting edge voices. Each volume addresses major issues in dialogue with wider public discourses, regularly engaging perspectives from the religions of the world. For volumes of substance, breadth and insight, Concilium provides a most impressive response to the most important issues in theology today." -- Jeannine Hill Fletcher, Fordham University

Concilium has long been a household-name for cutting-edge critical and
constructive theological thinking. Published in six languages, it can claim to be the most widely read theological journal in the world.

Published five times a year, each issue reflects a deep knowledge and scholarship presented in a highly readable style, and each issue offers a wide variety of viewpoints from leading thinkers from all over the world.
